📚 Book lovers, get excited — from October 24 to 29, 2025, the world’s largest floating bookfair will dock at Road Town, Tortola. Over 5,000 titles will be available for browsing and purchase.
This isn’t just a book sale. It’s a cultural splash. Students, teachers, readers — everyone — gets to meet an international crew of up to 400 multicultural volunteers, all rallying around literacy, education, community, and cross-cultural fellowship.
The ship behind the magic is MV Logos Hope. Registered in Malta, the vessel launched its global journey back in 2009. Since then, it’s visited more than 150 ports across 83+ countries, selling over 11.5 million books along the way. It’s previously visited more than 16 Caribbean nations, and now Tortola is next.
The Virgin Islands’ Premier’s Office is working behind the scenes to make sure everything goes smoothly. The plans are ambitious:
- A welcome reception and a media press conference
- A courtesy call with government officials
- Visits by student groups, nonprofits, and uniformed corps
- A Rotary event
- A fundraising concert
- The ship will open her decks for public access at set times
- Crew participation in local church services
- Community donation drives
Khemraj Lakhan, Senior Project Manager at GBA Ships e.V., says the mission isn’t just about books: “While in the Virgin Islands, our vessel seeks to share knowledge … express practical love to those in need, and hope by promoting peace through embracing diversity … modelling a purposeful life.”
Dr. Lavon Chalwell-Brewley, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, added that with coordination from every agency, the visit should not only be smooth — it should leave something lasting in the hearts of Virgin Islands communities.
About the Government’s Role
The Virgin Islands government sees this as more than a bookfair. It’s part of a vision: well-informed citizens, cultural exchange, community strengthening, and sustainable development. The Premier’s Office will be central in coordinating across ministries to ensure the ship’s visit is impactful.
